Pediatrics Medical Assistant Certification

What is Pediatrics?

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that focuses on the care and health of children and adolescents from birth to 18. From annual well visits to uncovering medical problems, pediatricians are an important figure in the healthcare industry.

What are some of the services that Pediatricians provide?

Pediatricians are trained to manage the health and welfare of children. They perform vaccinations, annual check-ups, sick-child care and physicals, looking for abnormalities, infection or disease as they assess patients. During visits and over time, pediatricians monitor and advise on growth and developmental milestones, diets, fitness and nutrition, emotional and social well-being, behavior and safety.

What does a Medical Assistant Certified in Pediatrics do?

A Specialty Certified Medical Assistant in Pediatrics (SCMA-PD™) works daily with children and must possess certain qualities and education to be successful. In addition to their clerical duties, Pediatric Medical Assistants measure and monitor patients' vitals from visit to visit for changes in growth and development, collect lab work, give immunizations, educate patients and parents on new policies and health information, and most importantly, ensure that these young patients feel safe and secure in a medical environment.
